Recitals:
Two recitals are held for students each year; one in December and one in early June. All students are expected to participate in the recitals. Both recitals feature duets as well as solos. Family and friends are invited to attend these events. Group Lessons: Group lessons are held four times per year in lieu of the regular private lesson. These lessons are one hour in length and feature performances, games and music history. These lessons are an opportunity for students to learn in a more social environment and get to know each other. Groups are organized by age. Students play for each other, then work on theory skills, ear training exercises, rhythm, and improvisation. Classes are tailored to meeting the needs of the students in each group. Student Achievement Testing: Student Achievement Testing is held the 2nd Saturday of March each year and is sponsored by the Michigan Music Teachers' Association. The event is open to any student after the first year of study, but is not required. As part of the SAT, students are tested in five dfferent areas: performance, technique, sight-reading, theory and ear training. These skills help to develop well-rounded musicians. This event requires additional fees. Federation Festival: Federation Festival is held in March each year and is a program designed to promote study, stimulate interest in American and world music literature, and encourage each participant to reach a high standard of musical achievement. It is not a competitive event, but an opportunity to perform and receive evaluation. It is sponsored by the National Federation of Music Clubs. Students must pay an additional fee to participate. |
